Our History

Drome World Vision Baptist Mission was born with James L. Davis as
its founding leader
October 24, 1968

Brother Oscar L. Nash became pastor

April 12, 1970

World Vision Baptist Mission became World Vision Baptist Church and
met at 905 Drummond Drive, 18 months later purchasing the property

January 21, 1973

Brother Ellis Thompson Powell became pastor.  2 months later, the
church changed its name to Southlake Baptist Church.  Pastor Powell
spent a year working with the NBA on purchasing property on which to
build a church

April 23, 1975

Church voted to purchase 3 acres on Bell Road for $6,500 per acre
totalling $19,500.  The purchase was financed through the Home
Mission Board (now North American Mission Board), Atlanta, GA, to be
repaid in 2 and a half years

June 15, 1975

Name was changed to Bell Road Baptist Church.  Services were held
inside a tent through September 1, 1975 before meeting at Antioch
High School

September 29, 1976

Brother James Keith became interim pastor and then pastor.  He
invited Mrs. Martha Wells to come to Bell Road as organist

October 1, 1978

Bell Road became a mission of Brentwood Baptist Church

November 8, 1978

Dr. Lee Porter called as pastor, effective November 26, 1978

December 12, 1982

Bell Road reconstituted as Bell Road Baptist Church.  At that time 38
charter members were recognized and welcomed into the church.  Of
that group, two are presently active: Martha Wells, and Darlina Wright

October 18, 1983

Bell Road Baptist Church accepted into the Nashville Baptist Association

March 27, 1988

Ground broken for new educational building.  Fellowship Hall in the
new building named Porter Hall in honor of Dr. Lee Porter, who
resigned as pastor in February, 1992 to accept the call of a church in
Panama City, FL

December, 1992

Dr. Wayne Etheridge called as pastor to begin January 3, 1993

February 16, 1994

Church voted to adopt Antioch High School as prayer focus indefinitely

September, 1994

Church incorporated with the Secretary of State's Office

May, 1995

Church approved loan application to Tennessee Baptist Foundation for
$125,000 to refinance first mortgage, purchase new organ, and
provide for future property and space needs

January - February, 1997

Church Council began praying about and exploring direction of the
church for the future

June, 1997

Excellent Vacation Bible School: four souls were saved
